Sevana’s peaceful routine is abruptly destroyed when a Sa Kao army invades Nopper’s Woods, fully intending to declare war on the Fae that live there. Princess Amas of Sa Kao has gone missing, disappearing so completely that it’s believed she must have been spirited away, and Sa Kao blames the Fae.
Knowing full well the Fae are not behind the abduction of the princess, Sevana goes to investigate and finds that it’s not one Princess missing, but a good dozen people, all in the same way. Now she has to figure out how and why and do so quickly. The spell used to take these people is fading fast. If Sevana doesn’t find a way to reverse what has been done, then there won’t be anyone left for her to save.

I love the series and have given several 5's. The rating for this book is not so much that it is different, but that some issues seem to be unexamined, by reviewers, and by the author. But I have to advise SPOILERS before saying what I mean.OK, you were warned. The un-apprehended villain from the first two books returns and falls into a trap. But who is trapping who? Sevana should have died, but was saved by the Fae. Because she has been trafficking orphans to them. This was very carefully done in book 2 with one boy who was fully informed. But it really gets out of hand here.

Great book. Almost last in a Series. Does not havexist to be read in order.
I'm recommending the author to my niece's and son. Love the vivid imagery and the connections between the characters. Imaginative paintings spark form the authors words! Thank you!!!
This book has a well laid out plot line with twists coming in both the challenge and the relationships. Characters are true to past books and beloved because of this. I really loved this one and am already anxious for the next installment! But to be fair - I have read all of Ms Raconteur's books and am a true fan. Sara Foy

This is the best one of the 3 Artifactor books out. They're all good, mind you, but this is the one I re-read. There's less focus on other characters, and more from Sevana, which I liked. Her neighbors in the woods play a much larger role, which I liked as well. The ending wasn't exactly a cliff hanger, but it set the scene for a humdinger of a fourth book. Which isn't coming out any time soon, unfortunately. Overall, it was really good, and I highly recommend it!
I read Raconteur's "The human familiar" first and loved it, so I was very enthusiastic to go back and read her other works. Even so, I was impressed by this series. I love the main character, the depth of the secondary characters and how each of the stories in the series develops. Book 3 may be my favorite (hard to tell, as I'm eagerly awaiting book 5).
I love Honor's writing and imagination, her stories are a joy to read and I'm not surprised by the comments of other fans that it a read through book. I pretty much didn't put it down til finished and then started reading it again.
I really like how the stories in this series are stand alone novels, as you don't have to "wait until next time" to find out the ending and yet they are still linked to the previous ones. Like in this story, the heroine Sevana had encountered the Scofflaw Magician in the previous adventures but never quite put it together. I also like Sevana's growing connection to the Fae and that she is still taking unwanted children to them to adopt.
It was a nice surprise that the Fae "named" her, [I felt as stunned as Sevana -)] and Aran was an unexpected but lovely addition, one wonders for future storylines.....
In all, a wonderful read and highly recommended to anyone that loves adventure, mystery, magic and quirky twists.
